Meg Ryan

Blond-haired, blue-eyed with a bubbly personality. Meg Ryan was born Margaret Mary Emily Hyra in Fairfield, Connecticut, to Susan (Duggan) Duggan, she was an English teacher and one-time actress and Harry Hyra, a math teacher. Ruthenian as well as Polish, Irish, German and German of German descent. "Hyra" is her maternal grandmother's maiden name, is Ruthenian. Meg graduated in June 1979 from Bethel highschool, Bethel. After moving to New York, she attended New York University where she majored in journalism. Meg Ryan was her new name and she started acting to earn additional money as she finished her studies. Her first screen appearance came in 1981 with a short appearance as Candice Bergen’s daughter in George Cukor’s final film Rich and Famous (1981). She auditioned , and was selected to play Betsy on the daytime television soap"As the World turns (1956). She was a part of the cast from 1982 to 1984. Meg was also part of the TV series One of the Boys (1982) that was later cancelled. She moved to Hollywood in 1984, and was offered an offer to appear on the western series Wildside (1985). Meg was a small part in Top Gun (1986), which resulted in her being cast in Steven Spielberg's Innerspace (1987) where she was a co-star with Dennis Quaid. For the remake of D.O.A., she starred again alongside Dennis Quaid. (1988) and married on Saint Valentine's Day 1991. In 1989, Meg appeared in When Harry Met Sally... (1989) and the scene at the restaurant became famous. Meg was nominated for the Golden Globe as well as the BAFTA. In 1990, she co-starred with Tom Hanks in Joe Versus the Volcano (1990) and this time she played three roles as DeDe/Angelica/Patricia. She was also a part of the critically acclaimed Sleepless in Seattle (1993) in which she was nominated for the Golden Globe. In 1994, Meg decided to act contrary to the norm when she acted as the wife of an alcoholic and mother in the film When a Man Loves a Woman (1994). Meg returned to being "cute" following the film's release with I.Q. (1994) and French Kiss (1995). In 1994, Meg won the Harvard Hasty Pudding Award for being "Woman of the Year" and was selected as being one of "The 50 most beautiful people in the world 1994" by People Magazine.
